Check your EPF Account Balance Online!!!

Finally, after years of misery, patience and desperation, the employee provident fund organization of India or the PF Office in short has done something commendable.

You will be asking me what it is. And when I give you the answer, you may say

“Are you Serious?”

Yes my friends. I am Serious.

The answer is

“Starting immediately, you can check your EPF Balance, Online and also get SMS Alerts**”

Isn’t that wonderful news? After years of misery for PF account holders who had no clue about their PF account balance, the PF Office has finally done the remarkable job of loading the data online and making it available for the citizens of India.

Amidst all this rejoicing, did you miss the two asterisk symbols?

** - Data is available Online only for PF Offices from Delhi (North), Delhi (South), Laxmi Nagar (Delhi), Gurgaon, Faridabad, Karnal and Bangalore. Remaining offices will be added soon.

Nonetheless, the new demands a celebration and I am very very happy to share this news with all of you.

How to Check your PF Account Balance Online?

It is very simple folks.

First visit the EPF India Website by Clicking Here

You can see the Know Your EPF Balance link at the center of the page. It will look like below:

If you cant find it, don’t worry, just Click Here to reach that page.

Select your PF Office Location and then follow the instructions outlined in the website and you should be able to view your PF Balance.

Disclaimer: I am currently employed overseas and do not have an EPF Account in India. So, I am not 100% sure of this indeed works. I read a new announcement in our of the finance groups I am a member of and searched the official EPF website to find the news to be true and hence this article.

If any one of you, can use the website and confirm if this actually works, it can be very useful to everyone. Please do not hesitate to leave a comment in this page if you were able to view your balance.

Happy checking EPF Balance!!!

  1. I Can See that the PF Website has details related to almost all states and the respective PF Offices.

    Great :)

    This works!!!

  2. I cannot see the details. It says "Invalid Member_id / Data not updated against this DL/***". Also I noticed that the format in which it asks to enter the ac no is not the same the ac no I have. There might be some mismatch.

    1. It is quite possible because it has been nearly a year since I wrote this. Also, as this is a government website, it may still not be fully functional for all 100% of the population

Lets hope they fix the problems soon

    1. Anonymous - You have been working for less than 6 months. So this pension fund wont be given to you. The PF money (both your + employer contrib) can be given to you if you ask for it. Whatever is accumulated - I think around 10,000 will be given in around 2 to 3 months. Plus this money will be fully taxable.

The below two articles will be useful for you.

  4. Hi Anand,

Thanks for the informative articles about EPF.
However, I tried the online instructions to know my balance and it asks me to enter some information in a blank form based site, such as Establishment Code, Extn and Account Number.

Q: Could you please let me know as to where could I get these 3 details?
    From my employer?

    1. Hi Anonymous,
Unfortunately I am not employed in India, so, cant really comment on those columns because I cannot try this using my pf particulars. However, you can check with your employer to find out all this information and then try to create an account for yourself.

      Best wishes.

    1. Hi - There is no separate website for UP Power Corp employes. Just follow the instructions in this article and register using your epf acc number.

  6. Hi Arvind, I worked in an organisation called LibSys limited for nearly 2 years(from june 20, 2011 to june 4,2013). In the first year Rs960 was deducted from my salary as pf amount and same was supposed to be contributed by the organisation. After my first increment after exactly 1 year, pf deducted monthly was 1800 and same was supposed to be contributed by the organisation. Ileft job for my business on 4th june 2013. I read your article regarding "know your pf balance",I received an SMS stating my EE amount-26737,ER amount-15184(accounts updated 31-01-2013). Is it correct?? Should both the amounts not equal? Kindly revert back.

  7. I read the article. A last question, are the calculations given in my previous question correct? Because I doubt my organisation.

    Thanx for the reply.

    1. Ashish - I am not aware of the intricate details of the breakup of the money deducted from your pay but if you got the number from the PF website, it will be correct. the SMS/update came from the regional PF office/organization not your employer. so, dont worry

  8. Hi.

Thanks for the article. Is there a way I can get my last 10 years data. I have shifted 3 orgs in last years. I was able to get data online form 2011 onwards.. how do I get all pf statements against my pan number? Do you think the PF office will be able to generate data against my pan number and older PF numbers and give it to me. Do?es anyone know how it can be handled.

    1. Sanju - I highly doubt if such data can be retrieved. But, you can try visiting your regional epf office and check. Dont forget to take all your PF Account numbers so that they can help.

They cannot give you a report based on just your PAN Number. the actual Pf Acc number will be required

  9. Hi Arvind,

I was in one company for less than 6 month then joined another company but did not transfer the PF amount, after that i joined another company and worked for 10 months and resigned from there and now i joined the company where PF is not compulsory so i have not opted for that

my question is that can i withdrawal the PF amounts for two companies? if yes what is the procedure?

Your suggestion will help me a lot.

    1. Vinay - Per my understanding, only active accounts got migrated onto the EPF website data. Since your acc has been inactive since 2005, I suspect your account data never got included.

If you want your data, you should contact your regional PF Office and request them for a statement.

  11. Hi,
I have submitted my EPF transfer claim form on 27thSep2014 and my claim form is approved by previous employer on 6th Oct2014. The current status of my transfer claim is 'Your request is In Transit between EPFO Out and In Office'. Whereas on 17th October I received a SMS from the EPFORG stating that 'Form 13(Transfer claim) is rejected. Rejection letter is under dispatch'. But till now I haven't received any letter from the EPF office.
Kindly let me know what should be done from my side at this point of time?

    Kind Regards.

    1. Firstly - wait until you get that rejection letter. It is usually sent by normal post and takes time. Once you receive it, check what the problem was and then resubmit the request
